Happy Independence Day, folks!
I thought a good post on the believer’s liberation from SIN would be appropriate today. Here’s the latest from Christian Soul Food that I sent out today.
Be blessed. Â Eat a few hamburgers for me.
“The first effect of the power of God in the heart in regeneration, is to give the heart a divine taste or sense; to cause it to have a relish of the loveliness and sweetness of the supreme excellency of the divine nature.” – Jonathan Edwards (As quoted by John Piper).”
(Pleasures of God, pg. 298)
Ezekiel 36 reads:
25I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean from all your uncleannesses, and from all your idols I will cleanse you. 26And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules. 28You shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers, and you shall be my people, and I will be your God. 29And I will deliver you from all your uncleannesses. And I will summon the grain and make it abundant and lay no famine upon you. 30I will make the fruit of the tree and the increase of the field abundant, that you may never again suffer the disgrace of famine among the nations. 31Then you will remember your evil ways, and your deeds that were not good, and you will loathe yourselves for your iniquities and your abominations.
Those without a love for God and a hatred for sin should doubt that they are truly regenerate…..despite their emotional experience, despite their ‘spiritual experience’, despite their church membership, despite even their intellectual assent to Christ as Lord.
The Christian faith was not meant just to be facts believed, but a changed life.  Remember James 2 – Demons believe the truth about Christ (as seen throughout His ministry on earth – they correctly identified Him every time!)…. and they TREMBLE.
Salvation is a package deal. God not only saves a person from hell, gives them the faith to believe, but also changes their heart’s disposition so that they no longer have a thirst for sin like the non-Christian does… but a desire to serve and worship God fully.
If you’re reading this and feel a bit uneasy, head to the cross now.
Here’s a roadmap for you.
